NEW Face Chart!

OLD Face Chart Feb 6 2013 pink star burst

Can you spot the differences? I changed the Lindsey Jones Makeup Artistry logo and moved it down to the right. I also changed my font from Trade Gothic LT Std (Like Shu’s) to Geosans Light which you can get for free here (thanks Pugly Pixel)! I also put more social media action onto the bottom of the chart. And instead of using a vertical bar | to separate my info, I decided to go with two forward slashes instead // (which I could have sworn I used to see a lot on Nowness). Face drawn by my favorite graphic designer, Tabitha Emma. As far as functionality goes, I changed the Lips section to just “Lips:” because I found that I just didn’t need that much space. Also, I found that I was highlighting and contouring a lot more so I gave myself two different lines for that. I used to have the name and date at the bottom, but that made it very difficult to find in my files!  So this time I didn’t put “Name & Date” with a line, but rather just left space at the top. That way I can write whatever I desire, whether it be a designer’s name and shoot date or a brides name and her wedding date. I’ve already started using the chart for my first two bridal makeup trials of 2013 and it was so refreshing to see a new, fresh and functional layout!

Meet LJMA’s Intern, Floor!

Floor came all the way from the Netherlands to intern with me this week! It was such a great time having her here with me. She went to the Makeup Forever store for the first time, which was very exciting! Then we went to the Mac Pro Store, Muju (for containers) and some of my local makeup spots in the city. I flipped through her Dutch fashion magazines and checked out her favorite dutch makeup bloggers. We talked about boys, friends and our families. And last but not least, we did lots of makeup, SO fab! She assisted me at two large weddings, a makeup lesson, two makeup applications and at a Garden Party at Naturally Delicious Caterers in Brooklyn. Floor brought me a beautiful bracelet and the cutest Journal’s from the Netherlands, I love them!

The day that Floor left we decided to make a quick little video showcasing all she had learned in NYC. It would be a great video to share on her new blog that she will hopefully be starting soon!  Enjoy!

Thank you Lindsay from Readyluck for the great pic of Floor! And thank you Floor for being the best Intern a makeup artist could ask for!

The Office of LJMA

I am so excited to share my new desk with you! It fits perfectly up against my window where I have a great view of NYC, but more importantly, my balcony garden. Now you know what I look like when I’m emailing/ texting/ calling/ skyping you! Since the lighting is so great at my desk, hopefully I will have lots of videos coming up soon. I know I promised a video about the Makeup Forever 12 Flash color palette, so stay tuned…

Yes, I drink water out of a wine glass. It’s just so glamorous!  This parsons desk is from West Elm (found on cragslist for $150), Touch lamp from Bed Bath and beyond, Silver Monsoon Balsam scented candle from Anthropology (unavailable online, but on sale in stores), graph paper mousepad from Target, MacPro computer, limited edition Bobbi Brown palettes (sorry!), Ikea Mirror, assortment of brushes in an Ikea cup, and I’m wearing a Timex watch and a Maxstudio long sleeved shirt.

Meet the Makeup Artist: Kaarin Lanyi

Q. How do you know Makeup Artist Lindsey Jones?

A. I met Lindsey on the Michael Bastian FW ’12 show. She complimented me on the organization of my makeup station. :)

Q. What lip gloss/ color is in your purse right now?

A. I’m currently using L’oreal Colour Riche Balm in Nourishing Nude. I don’t like wearing lip gloss or lipstick so I’m always on the hunt for a texture somewhere in between. This balm is semi-shiny, tinted, and has SPF15. The color is just a fraction of a shade deeper than my natural lip color; it’s the perfect no-lip lip for me.

Q. How long have you been a makeup artist and what type of work do you do?

A. I was approached by a producer in NYC to do makeup when I was about 20. She immediately had me working on TV productions even though I was totally clueless! (I wish I had a photo of my kit from back then to share! Hilarious I assure you.) It was a whirlwind experience that I wasn’t quite ready for so after a year and a half of trying to figure out how to be a freelance makeup artist without mentors or makeup pals I left that path for a few years to pursue work in the same field as my degree (Architecture Studies and Urban Design). While working at the architecture firm I realized that I really did want to do makeup and I was finally ready to tackle it on my own terms. I’ve been a freelance makeup artist full time for 5 years now since I came back to artistry. I would say that my work is split pretty evenly between TV, fashion, and private clients. Love my job! LJMA on the first page of Yelp!

I was told by a friend that she saw me on Yelp’s homepage and I had to check it out. Lo and behold, there I was! Thank you to all my loyal clients and especially those that have written about their experiences with me on Yelp. I am truly grateful to have met so many amazing women throughout my career, and I look forward to meeting many more in 2012!
