Can you spot the differences? I changed the Lindsey Jones Makeup Artistry logo and moved it down to the right. I also changed my font from Trade Gothic LT Std (Like Shu’s) to Geosans Light which you can get for free here (thanks Pugly Pixel)! I also put more social media action onto the bottom of the chart. And instead of using a vertical bar | to separate my info, I decided to go with two forward slashes instead // (which I could have sworn I used to see a lot on Nowness). Face drawn by my favorite graphic designer, Tabitha Emma. As far as functionality goes, I changed the Lips section to just “Lips:” because I found that I just didn’t need that much space. Also, I found that I was highlighting and contouring a lot more so I gave myself two different lines for that. I used to have the name and date at the bottom, but that made it very difficult to find in my files! So this time I didn’t put “Name & Date” with a line, but rather just left space at the top. That way I can write whatever I desire, whether it be a designer’s name and shoot date or a brides name and her wedding date. I’ve already started using the chart for my first two bridal makeup trials of 2013 and it was so refreshing to see a new, fresh and functional layout!
With Valentine’s Day less than two weeks away, I hope you’re getting into serious preparation mode! Here’s a little timeline to help you stay on track for your Lover’s Renzevous… and remember, nothing feels better than planning for outrageous confidence and sexual prowess!
NOW // Book all beauty appointments and make restaurant reservations. Consider where you and your lover would like to dine! If you need help deciding, Yelp is a great resource. If you’re going to cook for your lover, consider trying out the recipe ahead of time so you’re feeling confident the day of. Also, do you have a cute apron? Hottie in the kitchen!
10 DAYS // Research and shopping phase. At 10 days you’ve left plenty of time to find that perfect Valentines date night outfit AND lingerie (please don’t leave this part out). Consider what the weather will be like, what nail polish color you’ll rock, hair style, makeup and everything else that makes you feel super-duper-hot.
ONE WEEK // Facial. One week leaves your face adequate time to heal so that you don’t have any peely skin or post-facial breakouts. But not so soon that you’ll lose that post facial glowiness. See Elena Rubin for the best facial in NYC.
2 DAYS // Brazilian, Brows… heck, let’s keep it real- BODY WAXING. Again, need to leave yourself a couple of days to heal if there is any skin irritation but not so far out that you’ll have little in-growns or new growth. See Marta at Haven for the best Brazilian.
1 DAY // Mani/ Pedi. Fresh, fresh, fresh.
V-Day // Hair + Makeup. For hair see the girls at StylesOnB. After your hair is styled to perfection, come see me for makeup right around the corner! And obvi I’ll be offering a V-day special…. email me for availability and pricing! email@example.com
Feeling fierce? You should be. Seduction at this point will be a breeze, so enjoy your dinner and basque in your glory as your lover tells you what a magnificent creature you are! And DO allude to what might be waiting for them later…
Can you say, ADORABLE! My lovely client sent me a thank you note and a fabulous BLINC mascara!. I just can’t get over it, SO SWEET! Thank you notes make the recipient + sender feel so great! When was the last time you send out a thank you note? It’s certainly been a while for me because I’ve been so busy, but I must get back on top of it!
During out makeup lesson together, Betsy and I discussed how great BLINC mascara is. She wasn’t my first client to insist that it was the best out there for girls that have smudging concerns with their mascara. I told her I needed to get out there and get some to try out… and then she sent me one in the mail! Yippee!!!
Thank you Betsy!
Floor came all the way from the Netherlands to intern with me this week! It was such a great time having her here with me. She went to the Makeup Forever store for the first time, which was very exciting! Then we went to the Mac Pro Store, Muju (for containers) and some of my local makeup spots in the city. I flipped through her Dutch fashion magazines and checked out her favorite dutch makeup bloggers. We talked about boys, friends and our families. And last but not least, we did lots of makeup, SO fab! She assisted me at two large weddings, a makeup lesson, two makeup applications and at a Garden Party at Naturally Delicious Caterers in Brooklyn. Floor brought me a beautiful bracelet and the cutest Journal’s from the Netherlands, I love them!
The day that Floor left we decided to make a quick little video showcasing all she had learned in NYC. It would be a great video to share on her new blog that she will hopefully be starting soon! Enjoy!
Thank you Lindsay from Readyluck for the great pic of Floor! And thank you Floor for being the best Intern a makeup artist could ask for!
At the two-day Launch event with Bobbi Brown for Donna Karan’s new fragrance, WOMAN, we made up all the beauty editors from Allure, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, Essence, O Magazine, WWD, Town and Country and VOGUE. The women then had their portrait taken with the woman that inspires them, be it their mother, sister or a friend. Famed photographer Brigitte Lacombe took the portraits in black and white. It was so fun for their family and friends to take a peak into their glamorous lives, they were so excited and proud. Sarah Brown was my last makeup application of the two day event, I had no Idea what she was thinking while I was doing her makeup, I couldn’t read her. Did she like the makeup? Was she feeling me? She gave me no clues. I just did my thing… listened to her tell me what she wanted, tried to help her articulate what she had in mind, as well as explain to her the photographer’s style and how we had to keep that in mind as we put together the look. I was assertive, calm, friendly and confident… or as much as I could be while doing the beauty editor of Vogue’s makeup. Continue reading
I am so excited to share my new desk with you! It fits perfectly up against my window where I have a great view of NYC, but more importantly, my balcony garden. Now you know what I look like when I’m emailing/ texting/ calling/ skyping you! Since the lighting is so great at my desk, hopefully I will have lots of videos coming up soon. I know I promised a video about the Makeup Forever 12 Flash color palette, so stay tuned…
Yes, I drink water out of a wine glass. It’s just so glamorous! This parsons desk is from West Elm (found on cragslist for $150), Touch lamp from Bed Bath and beyond, Silver Monsoon Balsam scented candle from Anthropology (unavailable online, but on sale in stores), graph paper mousepad from Target, MacPro computer, limited edition Bobbi Brown palettes (sorry!), Ikea Mirror, assortment of brushes in an Ikea cup, and I’m wearing a Timex watch and a Maxstudio long sleeved shirt.
I was on Style Me Pretty! A team of wedding industry professionals and I all got together to style a winter wedding shoot. Words can’t express the amazing talent I worked with! So… I’ll let the pictures do the talking for me…
For more beautiful photos, please see the full post on Style Me Pretty. Also, I’m booked for another wedding at this Venue on August 13th, so excited!
